Sikka: A history of return

The train was a generational love story that had its beginnings under Turkish Rule in the 19th century. Built for military and trade purposes, "Al Gatar" changed the dynamics of culture in Sudan. The first line was constructed from Wadi Halfa to Umbacal in 1875. Interrupted by war, economic distress, coup d'etats and finally independence, the railway line did not reach its last stop until the 1960's.
